Juliette Shackleton creates bespoke functional and decorative ware.
All her products are handmade, individual pieces and mostly thrown on the potter's wheel.

Juliette's designs draw inspiration from her love of nature, especially of plants. Her botanical drawings translate into detailed and delicate clay forms which use the technique of sgraffito. Coloured slip is applied to leather-hard clay then meticulously carved to leave the design as a relief and reveal the clay colour beneath. Each piece is completely unique and can take many hours to carve before being biscuit-fired, glazed and fired again.

Vibrant turquoises, blues, purples, lime green and heathers in her work reflect her love of the SW Coast, and in particular the Isles of Scilly, where she is lucky enough to venture most Summers.

Juliette has a small studio, 'Chalkstone Pottery', in rural Hertfordshire, on the boundary of the chalk. It is set amidst a small copse frequented by black squirrels, woodpeckers, friendly robins and her two rescue cats, Tia and Samson.

'Chalkstone' is an anagram of Shackleton. The logo features Juliette's maker's mark, which combine the letters 'J' and 'S' , surrounded by a coccolith - a nod to her former life as a palaeontologist.
